I have always been fascinated by the world of finance and the uncertainty that characterizes it.The intricate and interconnected web of economy, polity and society with finance affects the way stock market behaves. However intuitive the effect may be, it’s a challenge to quantify this randomness and more so, to accurately predict it. This information can be useful in assessing risk for financial institutions. My research focuses on non-parametric techniques of estimating these risks and ways of backtesting them.
I recently had a chance to present the motivation for my research as a project for a professional development series: Communication Strategies for Teaching and Beyond. The idea was to be able to present my work to a non-technical audience effectively without always resorting to the financial jargons. Here's my presentation!
